No one knows. It used to simply mean you had property damage coverage to cover your car in case you are in an accident. I think a lot of people say they have “full coverage” and think this means they have all the coverages available to them and basically “good insurance.” When people tell me they have full coverage, it means nothing to me because I don’t think it has any specific meaning these days. So, I ask for the declarations page that shows specifically what coverages they have or don’t. And in Washington, where UIM and PIP are waivable, I’ve seen many a person’s policy with “full coverage” who have waived vital coverages. So let’s all stop using the phrase “full coverage” and instead be sure to know specifically what coverages you have!! Call a PI lawyer or your insurance agent or broker, have your declarations page handy. Consults are always free. I’m happy to review your policy with you and explain your coverages, and more importantly, what you may need and opted out of!
