I want to stress how important it is to have rental car coverage these days or access to a backup vehicle. When you’re in a car accident, whether big or small, you will most likely be out of a car for a while. Either because it isn’t drivable anymore or will need to be fixed. Except car repair shops are often months out right now to be able to fix your car and it can take longer than usual to fix it once it’s in the shop because parts are on back order. You can purchase rental car coverage through your insurance or AAA. If you don’t have it, you are at the mercy of the at fault insurance company to provide it, and they can take a while to complete their liability investigation and provide coverage, and may only provide a certain number of days of coverage that isn’t enough. This can leave you holding the bill and out of pocket for a rental car you didn’t put in the budget, and is one of my clients’ biggest annoyances after a crash.
